| - SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY. Assistant Professor, tenure track. Salary and benefits highly competitive. SCU's benefit package includes registered domestic partner benefits, housing subsidy program, pre-tenure research leave, and internal grant program; start September 2012. Responsibilities include teaching six classes per year on the quarter system (five in first year), advising and mentoring students, publishing quality scholarship in peer-reviewed venues and providing service to the department, College and the University, as appropriate to rank and years of service at SCU. The following courses will be taught in rotation per department and College needs: a two-quarter (two course) Culture and Ideas sequence for incoming first-year students; an introductory survey covering the Rococo to Modern period; and additional courses in African American Art. Teaching load will include other courses in the successful candidate’s range of expertise such as Performance Art or Art and Theory of the African Diaspora, etc., as well as a Senior Seminar on a topic of the candidate’s choosing (presently taught on a five-year rotating schedule). Please see department website for examples of the art history program’s and department’s activities: Qualifications: We seek a candidate with a proven success record in the classroom and a strong interdisciplinary approach to teaching. PhD required. Doctorate in a topic related to African-American art or artists preferred. Publication/s in peer-reviewed venue expected with research in progress appropriate to a tenure-track candidate. The successful candidate will also demonstrate active participation in professional organizations relevant to their research interests. Teaching portfolio should include: proposal for the two-quarter Cultures and Ideas 1 & 2 course sequence, and examples of additional upper and lower division classes; sample written assignments and teaching evaluations; statement of teaching philosophy.
