The Nagare family (流れ一族, Nagare ichizoku) are a lower noble house who reside in the Soul Society and have been prominent since the earliest days of the Soul Society. A drear past has followed the Nagare since their days as a small fishing village who bordered the Karigane River, but they have remained resilient in maintaining their pride throughout the years. Many strong Shinigami have been born from the Nagare family, and through marriage, many connections have been made with other lower noble houses. They have married into both the Ukitake family through one of their daughters as well as the Kira family.

They have married into both the Ukitake family through one of their daughters as well as the Kira family. The Nagare Family consists of the primary family, consisting of Hyōsube Nagare, his wife, and his six children. Hyōsube's remaining aunts and uncles, as well as his own brothers, sisters, and cousins led to many branches of the family. Hyōsube inherited the title of Lord of the Nagare Family from his father, although it was originally intended for his older brother who died in battle. His cousins, who lost their chance at becoming Lord of the Nagare hold resentment towards Hyōsube with the idea that the title belongs to one of them.
