- The T-62 is a Soviet main battle tank, a further development of the T-55. Its 115 mm gun was the first smoothbore tank gun in use. The T-62 was produced between 1961 and 1975. It became a standard tank in the Soviet arsenal, partly replacing the T-55, although that tank continued to be manufactured in the Soviet Union and elsewhere after T-62 production was halted. The T-62 was later replaced in front-line service by the T-72.

- The T-62 is a Soviet main battle tank that was first introduced 1961. As a further development of the T-55 series, the T-62 retained many similar design elements of its predecessor including low profile and thick turret armor. In contrast previous tanks, which were armed with rifled tank guns, the T-62 was the first tank armed with a smoothbore tank gun that could fire APFSDS rounds at higher velocities. While the T-62 became the standard tank in the Soviet arsenal, it did not fully replace the T-55 in export markets due to its higher manufacturing costs and maintenance requirements compared to its predecessor. Although T-62 was replaced in the Russia and successor states of the Soviet Union, it is still used in some countries and its design features became standardized in subsequent Sovie
- De T-62 was een middelzware sovjetrussische tank die in productie kwam in juli 1962, als opvolger van de T-55. Kort daarop werd echter besloten om naast de T-62 de T-55 wel weer in productie te nemen. Dat was wenselijk gezien het feit dat het type aan snelle slijtage onderhevig was. De politieke leiding was ontevreden. Chroesjtsjov had tegen de zin van het leger in de productie van zware tanks laten stopzetten en hij moest nu de indruk wekken dat de overblijvende middelzware tanks zo modern mogelijk waren. De T-55 was in productie van juni 1958 tot juli 1962, waarna de fabricage werd stilgelegd ten bate van een via de Obiekt 165 en 166 prototypen van de T-55 afgeleide tank, de T-62.
