Garney was one of the five mercenaries whom were hired by the SAS soldier Jake Hemple, in order to assist Jenny and Helen, in locating the kidnapped Cutter, Abby, and Connor. In the book, he is described as being a 37-year-old man, with balding and slightly grey hair, whom always wears sunglasses. Garney was put in charge of watching over the wounded Jenkins, by Hemple. However, when Jenkins disappeared, he was visibly anxious. Like all of the others, he was extremely appalled, and disheartened, when he found Jenkins's dead body being eaten by a pack of Troodons.
