Although he punched Castle after he appeared at Powell’s ‘office’, he admitted that he had been ready to retire from his old life due to his age. Examining photos of the stolen jewels, Powell noted that their value meant that the criminals could have only known the victims possessed such jewels if they attended the kind of important parties where such elaborate jewelry would ‘need’ to be worn, even convincing Castle to take him to the crime scene, so that he could examine it more closely and provide his insight. Noting that the thieves putting a woman in the safe reflected a bloodthirsty nature that unnerved even him, Powell nevertheless vanished when Kate Beckett appeared at the crime scene. Powell later appeared at the Metropolitan American Dance Theatre fundraiser, while Castle and Beckett were there undercover trying to identify their potential thieves having determined that all their victims donated to the organization but unable to acquire the companies’ list of donors directly prompting Castle to conclude that he was associated with the home invaders in question, before Powell revealed that he was actually there to witness Martha offer bidders for a signed copy of one of Castle’s books the additional option of a date with him. Powell saw this as sufficient payback for Castle’s past actions. Powell displays an idiolect that is truly unique, and presumably a consequence of his travels, broad education and the requirements of his chosen profession.
