Lily Ross Taylor (Born in Alabama, 1886-November 18, 1969) developed an interest in Roman studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning an A.B. in 1906. She then went to Bryn Mawr College as a graduate student in 1906, receiving her Ph.D. in Latin in 1912. From 1912 until 1927, she taught at Vassar, and, in 1917, she became the first female Fellow of the American Academy in Rome.
