The upper planes (sometimes Upper Planes) is a collective term used in the Great Wheel cosmology model to represent the Outer planes of Good alignment, located across the top of the Great Wheel. These are Arcadia, the Seven Heavens, the Twin Paradises, Elysium, Happy Hunting Grounds/Beastlands, Olympus/Arvandor, and Gladsheim. The World Tree cosmology model rearranged, renamed, and reorganized the upper planes into the Celestial planes but some people still use the older term to describe the good-aligned planes.

  • The Upper Planes are the goodly aligned realms populated by angels and archons, among other creatures. It is believed that the Upper Realms were created around the same time as Lyranthium, but went largely unpopulated until the conclusion of the Celestial War.
  • A term used to refer to the Outer Planes associated with good alignments, such as Elysium and Arborea. The moniker refers to the ascending structure of the planes in question. In contrast, evil aligned planes are called the "Lower Planes" because of their descending structure.
