Elected to Parliament in 3116, Iler successfully led a caucus revolt against Ken Harradine. He had previously been a candidate in the leadership race against Sebastian Burroughs. In the April 3120 elections, Iler had hoped to see a major breakthrough for the party. However, he still failed to secure a place in the runoff election by 2.42%. He saw the party gain the second largest number of seats in Parliament but this modest gain did not help his troubling poll numbers. Just months after the election, Iler resigned as leader.
