Synopsis
  • Zatanna is having a dream in which she is having a date with an European nobleman after finishing her show, when she is awakened by a cat on the street. As Zatanna lets the cat into her house, Mikey asks her about the cat. Zatanna replies that the cat's left eye is solid crystal that reveals the future to anyone who stares at it. The cat also appears to give a specific message to someone. As she looks at the cat's left eye, Zatanna sees Brother Night. Zatanna says that when she saw Night at the neutral plane, she knew that they would meet again. Then, the cat leaves but not before showing an image of the Spectre. Putting on her work clothes, Zatanna goes to see the Spectre. Meanwhile at prison, Brother Night is putting a tattoo on another convict's arm. As Dale Colton and the warden watch him from a vigilance outpost, Night announces that it is time for him to leave but the convicts must await his orders. Then, Night casts a spell that reduces some prisoners into skeletons, using their bones to create a ladder and bending the barbed wires. Night escapes from the prison, summoning a flock of crows against the guards, but Dale tackles him. However, Night uses mind control on a dog, keeping Dale from following him. Before he escapes, Night asks Dale to say hi to Jenny Myers for him. Then, he uses mind control on a group of people to escape in their car. Night arrives at his old base of operations, which has been turned into a goth club. Meanwhile, the Spectre is in the process of punishing Thomas Slocum for stealing money from all the people that ever trusted him, when Slocum is suddenly turned into a rat. It was Zatanna's doing, as she believed the Spectre was getting too terrifying, even for his standards. Unimpressed by Zatanna's intervention, the Spectre kills Slocum and asks Zatanna why is she looking for him. Zatanna tells him about the vision, believing that there could be a fight between them. The Spectre says that the virtue of Zatanna's soul, while put to test, it has never been approved. In other words, she has nothing to fear from him. Annoyed by the Spectre's answer, she returns home. Later, Dale goes to the Napa Mental Institue to interrogate Jenny Myers. Jenny was a 17-year-old girl who was arrested for trying to kill her newborn son. She marked several crosses on her skin and the child's because she believed she had been used to give birth to a demonic son. Dale remembers Jenny from his parents' conversations, and as he interrogates her, Jenny says that she tried to save him from his father when he was a child. Dale realizes that Brother Night is his father. To be continued...
