An orphan at a young age, she believed her mother was guilty and, at the time of The Bourne Supremacy, currently lives alone in an apartment in Moscow. Irena had spent years not entirely understanding why her parents had died, and retained a photograph of them together; to remember them. In the ending of The Bourne Supremacy; she returned home to find an injured Bourne in her apartment - he confesses his part in her parents' deaths, and then apologizes to her. Irena was visibly traumatized at what she had heard and, as Bourne left the apartment, was left in shock and crying.
