There are approximately 640 muscles in the human body. The number is approximate because there is minor variation from person to person. For example some muscles (eg. Palmaris longus) can be entirely absent. Other muscles can fuse together, and others can separate into distinct muscle bodies. 640 is a reliable average number however.
