A Graywing is a type of bat in Kenneth Oppel's Silverwing Series. In the Novel "Silverwing" Shade first Meets The Graywings after departing from Marina's island. When he hits the mainland, he believes that it is his colony from a distance, but soon learns that they aren't. Shade is given a chance to travel with them, but the leader says that Marina is cursed because of Her band, and he would have to ditch her to travel with them. Shade declines this offer, even though Marina encourages him to. From this point on, the Graywings continue to travel away into a different direction.
