| - The Plasma Beam is acquired after finding the Grapple Beam in the Phazon Mines, found in a room in the Magmoor Caverns. In this appearance, it represents the element of fire and it fires streams of molten energy, which can, naturally, set enemies on fire. A charged shot can instantly incinerate most larger enemies. It has the second fastest rate of fire in the game, after the Power Beam, and coupled with its high attack power, the Plasma Beam is easily the best beam weapon in the game.

Being associated with fire, it is often used in dealing with obstacles made from ice or Frigidite. It is able to open red doors. The Beam Combo for the Plasma Beam is the Flamethrower. It functions in a similar manner to the Wavebuster, because being a continuous combo, it consumes missiles over time for the duration of the attack. The Flamethrower, true to the name, projects a stream of fire that can roast enemies alive. Because most enemies can be killed just as easily with a charged shot or repeated normal shots, many players opt not to use the Flamethrower. It is also in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, where it can melt various metals and be used as a makeshift welding tool. It is most effective against the robots in Elysia.
