  • The Hood was built to the Enterprise-subclass specifications mark I, outfitted as an advanced heavy cruiser (CA+) by the 2280s decade. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual; ST video game: Starfleet Command) No history or fate is established for this vessel in Starfleet Command as its name was randomly assigned to a cruiser vessel by the game software. In the 2290s, the Hood was under the command of Captain Lustig. (TNG novelization: Relics) In its later years of service, the Hood was refurbished to the mark IV evolution of the Enterprise-subclass design. The Hood was recorded as being destroyed on stardate 2/3503, and was succeeded in its name on stardate 2/3512 by a new Excelsior-class USS Hood. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual) The second Constitution-class Hood was introduced in the Federation Ship Recognition supplement as having the same registry as the preceding vessel, with no explanation given for the duplication. Since the earlier ship was recovered and scrapped in the FASA version of its history, it is possible that they considered this a case where the ship's registry would be naturally passed on, even though other sources that are closer to canon indicate that registry numbers do not often pass on to replacement vessels.
