abstract
  • Zoo Torah is an educational business and series of books created by Rabbi Natan Slifkin (b. 1976; also known as the Zoo Rabbi) which seeks to synthesize the Torah with education on wildlife and the animal kingdom. Slifkin, who is based in Israel, was the subject of a 2004 ban by Haredi rabbis Leib Tropper and Leib Pitner for having placed the age of the Earth much older than the traditional age as held by ultra-Orthodox rabbis. The ban against Slifkin is seen as part of a larger attempt by the followers of Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to ban the advancing of Religious Zionist and Modern Orthodox Judaism, including voiding conversions.
