The plans for the estate were initially approved as two separate schemes in 1955: Dowry Farm and Rubery Farm. The Dowry Farm plans included three 8 storey tower blocks on the northern end of the site, whereas the Rubery Farm plans consisted of two 8 storey blocks on the southern end. Both phases also included low rise housing. Construction of the estate began in 1957 and was built by Wimpey. The estate is home to some of Birmingham's southernmost tower blocks.
