Shisai Kyōraku (京楽詩才, Kyōraku Shisai) is the current Captain of the Eighth Division in the Gotei 13. Following the death of his spouse - Teinen Kyōraku (京楽諦念, Kyōraku Teinen) - Shisai had gone into depression and isolation, resigning from his duties as a Captain for a significant period of time. However, following an unexplained invasion from an Unnamed Demon King, and leaving Soul Society nearly in ruins, Shisai had once again took the mantle of his occupation. Yet even so, his alcoholic habits remain with him, and are only moderated by his stern, yet compassionate Lieutenant, Seishirō. A fine example of a man who has gone through tragedy and survived, Shisai is well known among the Gotei 13 as a great Captain, both in his character and his abilities.
