He played junior hockey for the Portland Winter Hawks and won the Memorial Cup in 1983. The team also played in the 1986 Memorial Cup tournament. Podloaski scored 138 points in 1984-85 and 134 in 1985-86. He was chosen 40th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Podloski turned pro in 1986-87 with the Moncton Golden Flames. He was called up for eight games with the Bruins in 1988-89 (scoring one assist) but was sent back to the minors. He decided, instead, to join the Canadian national men's hockey team in 1989-90. Podloski retired in 2003.
