| - Mr. Edwards has become very wealthy owning a logging empire. When Alicia brings him lunch, she is nearly crushed by a falling tree. Edwards saves her from certain injury, but his legs are crushed. He soon becomes resigned to life as a cripple, prompting Grace to write to her old friends, the Ingalls, to help. However, neither Charles nor Laura can seem to get Edwards to snap out of his depression, which is taking its toll on the family. On two occasions, Charles has to stop Edwards from trying to commit suicide. Only when Charles pretends to have been injured in a gun accident does Edwards snap out of his deep depression. It isn't long before Edwards is back to his old, irascible self.
