Gloomtail is a gigantic black dragon, and one of the bosses in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He is the older brother of Hooktail, and younger brother of Bonetail.

Gloomtail vowed to destroy Mario after hearing that he defeated his sister. Due to appearing later on in the game, Gloomtail is more powerful than Hooktail, though less powerful than Bonetail. He's black and purple and is basically a pallet swap of Hooktail. Unlike Bonetail, Gloomtail is required to defeat in order to complete the game.
- Gloomtail is Hooktail's older brother who appears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He is a black dragon which Mario faces in the Palace of Shadow during Chapter 8. He also has an older brother called Bonetail that lives at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials, and a younger sister called Hooktail that lives in (fittingly) Hooktail's Castle. Gloomtail is tougher than Hooktail, and has more attacks as well. Instead of blowing hot, fiery breath, Gloomtail has rank, poisonous breath. In addition to his stomp attack, he also has a powerful attack called Megabreath in which he blows a cloud of noxious yellow gas at Mario. | - That's Gloomtail. I think he's Hooktail's brother. I see the family resemblance... He'll bite or stomp you, and he may also breathe poison on you. Great. When his HP gets low, he may throw in some other attacks as well. Wouldn't surprise me. Especially watch out for his megabreath move, 'cause the word is, it's GNARLY! He also stores power for some attacks, so use Vivian to hide to avoid those.
