Benelux is a country in western Europe composed of the former polities of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Due to the perceived collaborationist actions of the king Léopold III of Belgium during the war, a crisis followed the liberation of this country and a referendum forced his abdication. While his son Beaudoin had been designated as his successor, the country instead chose a personal union with the royal house of the Netherlands. Following some discussion on a common economy and postal regulation, Luxembourg joined the United Kingdom of Netherlands-Belgium to form the Benelux.
