- Purge Troopers are large and heavily armed robotic dark trooper like droids. They were employed by the Galactic Empire. A few of these had been seen as part of the Jedi Temple garrison.
- The purge trooper was an early design-result of the Imperial Dark Trooper Project meant to be used against Force-sensitives. Parts of the droid's model would later be used to create the Phase III dark trooper.

Many of those troopers were originally recruited from gangs that fought in the Cargamalis Street Wars. Others were left on their own on crime-infested planets during training in order to suppress their empathy.

Although it was very rare for Purge Troopers to defect, and much less to survive doing so, a few of them did. After running from their former Imperial comrades for some time, those defectors ended up joining the Uprising.
