The Modern Looney Tunes Series began in August, 1996 with the video releases of Carrotblanca and Chariots of Fur. Each videotape in this series was named after the modern-day Looney Tunes short it contained. The tapes also featured an additional five classic cartoons. In late-1997 the series was continued with the video releases of two of Chuck Jones' recent cartoons: From Hare to Eternity with Bugs and Yosemite Sam and Superior Duck with Daffy Duck. Many collectors were disappointed with the amount of titles which were repeated from previous Warner releases.

Beginning from this video series, almost all Warner Home Video Looney Tunes compilation tapes for the rest of the 1990s open with a short version of the "Warner Bros. Family Entertainment" logo as seen on Warner Bros. Animation's cartoon shows (albeit with a short Merrie Melodies fanfare).
