| - Ein besonderes Element ist in diesem Spiel die Möglichkeit, manche Gegner zu rekrutieren und für sich kämpfen zu lassen, ähnlich wie in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Weiterhin wird während dem Spielverlauf plötzlich und automatisch die Spielfigur gewechselt. Nomura baute dies ein, um den Spieler hin und wieder zu überraschen und ihm ein Gefühl zu vermitteln, dass jederzeit etwas passieren könnte. Diese Wechsel ereignen sich manchmal sehr unvorbereitet, zum Beispiel mitten in einem Kampf, andere Male dagegen nach einem schweren Abschnitt, wenn der Spieler vermutlich ohnehin damit rechnet. Insgesamt bietet die Handlung dadurch zwei Perspektiven, die ineinander laufen und sich zu einem Gesamtbild verbinden.
