The Santosan species were the dominant race of the planet of Santose. They were naturally blind as a result of their original habitats being the cave systems of Santose. For this reason, their other senses were particularly keen, although some opulent Santosans would sometimes have a cybernetic eye grafted into their forehead that could simulate the sense of sight. Such an enhancement required the Santosan to be confined to a mechanical chair for the rest of their lives, so the process was uncommon.

Santosans were often thought of as a very intelligent and mechanically-inclined species. Indeed, Santose Systems, Santose's largest droid-manufacturing corporation, released a multitude of highly-successful droid lines before it fell into bankruptcy following the Declon War and was subsequently purchased by Industrial Automaton.
