Dr Ralph Gooding (1842 - 17 August 1922) was a surgeon, local politician and officer in the Volunteer Force and the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Born in Ipswich, Suffolk, he was the son of Samuel Ralph Gooding, a relieving officer, and his wife Amy. By 1871 he had qualified as a Bachelor of Medicine at the University of London and was living in the Blackheath area of Greenwich and working as general practitioner. In 1895 he was elected to the London County Council as a Moderate Party councillor representing Greenwich.

Born in Ipswich, Suffolk, he was the son of Samuel Ralph Gooding, a relieving officer, and his wife Amy. By 1871 he had qualified as a Bachelor of Medicine at the University of London and was living in the Blackheath area of Greenwich and working as general practitioner. In 1874 he received a commission as surgeon to the 5th Kent Volunteer Artillery. By 1894 he had reached the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel, and was awarded the Volunteer Decoration. In 1895 he was elected to the London County Council as a Moderate Party councillor representing Greenwich. When the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich was created in 1900, Gooding was the first Mayor of Greenwich. He was also a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for the County of London, and was chairman of the Blackheath Divisional Justices.
