The Mahout is an Indian and Persian Unique Unit of the File:Medieval age small.jpg Medieval Age. Unlike the War Elephant of the previous age, Mahouts have a ranged attack and can fire while moving, akin to Horse Archers. In addition, Mahouts have the advantage of being able to attack in melee and from range at the same time, a unique trait of the Mahout and its subsequent upgrades in the Elephant line.

Vor allem für Waldarbeiten werden dort oft noch Elefanten eingesetzt, denn sie sind sehr viel beweglicher in den Wäldern und nicht auf Straßen und Wege angewiesen, Elefanten verursachen so bei der Waldarbeit keine Umweltschäden.

| - Ein Mahout oder Mahut ist der Führer und oftmals Besitzer eines Arbeitselefanten, für seine Ernährung und Pflege verantwortlich und über Jahrzehnte mit dem Tier verbunden. Ein Mahout reitet auf dem Nacken des Elefanten und dirigiert ihn mit seinem Elefantenstab. Mahouts gibt es, wie die Arbeitselefanten, in Indien und Hinterindien, vor allem Thailand. Vor allem für Waldarbeiten werden dort oft noch Elefanten eingesetzt, denn sie sind sehr viel beweglicher in den Wäldern und nicht auf Straßen und Wege angewiesen, Elefanten verursachen so bei der Waldarbeit keine Umweltschäden. Mahout und Elefant arbeiten soweit möglich jahrzehntelang zusammen. Die notwendige vertrauensvolle Beziehung entwickelt sich bereits während der gemeinsamen Arbeit in der Elefantenschule. In Thailand gibt es zur Zeit (2003) noch etwa 2.000 Mahouts, die mit ihren Elefanten in den unwegsamen Waldgebieten im Norden Thailands arbeiten.
