Despite the RG name, the RG53 has the rounded-edge body style and swoopy, rounded headstock of the older Roadstar body. It is one of only a small number of RG models with a three single coil pickup configuration. It has a tone chamber routed out of the body beneath the pickguard. The RG53 features a chambered basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include three Ibanez Super 7F single coil pickups and a Powerocker Special tremolo bridge. The RG53 was offered only in Japan and was discontinued after 1986.
