David Copperfield is the protagonist of the 1850 Charles Dickens' novel of the same name and all film adaptions. He is the pothumous son of both his father of the same name (in whose memory he was named so) and Clara Copperfield. David Sr. had died half a year before his son's birth. He was born on a Christmas. Because he had turned out to be male, his mother's Aunt Betsey Trotwood had walked away from them. David is portrayed by various different actors. In the 1993 animated musical film adaption, he is portrayed as a cat and voiced by John Lennon's son Julian.
