He played junior hockey for the Guelph Royals. and after they moved, the Kitchener Rangers from 1961 to 1965. Both were New York Rangers' farm teams. In 1964-65 he scored 51 goals and 55 assists and earned a four game callup to New York. Fitzpatrick turned pro with the Minnesota Rangers in 1965-66 and the Omaha Knights in 1966-67. Fitzpatrick played one more season in Memphis and then joined the San Diego Gulls in 1969. After three seasons with the Gulls Fitzpatrick retired in 1972.
