As will be gradually established in game play, all races of mankind, except for the Aeldmiri, are descended (either naturally, as genetic creations, or from being brought from other worlds) from a great spacefaring race that settled the planet so long ago their existence has been forgotten. Before you ask, no. These races no longer exist anywhere and your character may not be a last living Annunaki or Anasazi…period. There are plenty of races to choose from for character creation.

Over the millennia that has passed since the fall of the original settlers, a majority of technological science knowledge has been lost, what remains is spotty. A good example are the byd golau. The crystals are found in great deposits throughout Aereth and Xia. It is known they can be mined and then must be expertly cut and polished to make them usable as a light source. It is known that they must be cut to preserve as many of the odd crystalline thread structures as possible as these are what absorbs the sunlight (similar to solar panels) and the more threads there are, the stronger the light will be and the longer the globe can go without recharging. Over time, the knowledge of how to mine, cut and polish the crystals led to the creation of one of the only Guilds (Guild *Ngoleuni) that spans across borders. The knowledge of how to locate the deposits of crystals has been lost. Most often, new deposits are found by chance with a smaller number being found because someone recognizes a similar topography and other geological features that are similar to areas where other byd golau mines are located. Most races retain at least a rudimentary knowledge of medicine, geology, geography, natural history, and astronomy. With few exceptions, people on the planet of Gaia do not attribute things they do not understand to the acts of gods and goddesses. Most often, things they do not understand are simply that, things and events not yet understood and real world explanations are then sought. Does this mean there are no superstitions and myths surrounding events and phenomena that is not understood? Absolutely not! Most races do have creation myths and legends. The main difference between these and the ones known in ancient times on Earth is that those on Gaia recognize them as just that…stories to explain something that is not yet scientifically proven or understood. The various scientific disciplines have not come into existence as of yet. Almost all persons that dedicate themselves to learning (scientific, historical, etc.) are termed scholars. Scholar Fred might be an expert in Cymerian history while Scholar Betty may be devoting her life to studying fish when she’s not actively engaged in working on her family’s fishing boat. Few people have the luxury to do nothing other than study whatever field interests them. Most scholars have evolved from necessity, such as having to learn how animal husbandry works in order to maintain the health of their farm animals.
