An animated music video of the song was featured in the seventeenth episode of the Chipmunks' first animated series, The Alvin Show. The short depicts Alvin looking through various presents to find a hula hoop, even as he reluctantly sings along with his brothers. At the end of the song, Seville rewards Simon and Theodore with toy planes and Alvin with his hula hoop. The subsequent argument about singing the song again ends abruptly with their Christmas tree falling over, and Seville and the Chipmunks emerge from the mess to wish the viewers a merry Christmas.

Santa Claus: Alvin rushed out of the studio and over to the home of Tommy Waterford. Tommy was lying in bed looking very, very pale. Why he hardly had the strength to smile when Alvin entered the room. Being a new boy in school, Tommy didn't have any friends and that certainly didn't make him any healthier. So when Alvin asked him to be his friend, well I was certain that Tommy looked healthier right then and there for you see friendship is a wonderful medicine. Before Alvin left for the recording studio, he gave Tommy a very special Christmas present, his very own golden Echo Harmonica. Alvin: I never cease to amaze myself, a heart of gold. Santa Claus: Ah, yes. Well anyway, a few minutes later Alvin burst in the recording studio with renewed energy. Alvin: Hello everybody! Simon & Theodore: Hi Alvin! Dave: Alright you Chipmunks, ready to sing your song? Simon & Theodore: I'd say we are. Dave: Ready Alvin? Alvin: Ready when you are Dave. We'll talk about it later. The Chipmunks: Want a plane that loops the loop Alvin: I still want a hula hoop The Chipmunks: We can hardly stand the wait Please Christmas don't be late We can hardly stand the wait Please Christmas don't be late Dave: Very good boys! And my very own bedroom. Theodore: Wake up Santa. Santa Claus: Yes. Oh, now where was I? Oh, I remember. So Rudolph flew out the window. Alvin: That's the wrong story Santa. I had just unselfishly given my beloved harmonica away. Santa Claus: Given your hama- Oh yes, yes, that's right; now I remember. The next day while the boys were decorating the Christmas tree, Dave entered the room. Dave: You know boys with Christmas get around the corner, why don't we take a few minutes to think about what this holiday really means. The Chipmunks: Presents! Dave: Well Christmas isn't just presents. The Chipmunks: It's not? Dave: Nope and as a matter of fact I just finished writing a song about the meaning of Christmas that I want ya to sing. Here are the words, and Alvin, please sing them correctly. Alvin: You got it Dave. |-|Kenny G= Simon: Oh Theodore. Do you hear that poor animal? Theodore: That's no animal. The song was later incorporated into the plot of A Chipmunk Christmas, in the scene where the Chipmunks are recording it at the recording studio. A depressed Alvin sings along flatly at first, but then leaves the studio to give away his harmonica to a sick boy. As Dave is about to resume recording the song without Alvin, he returns in the nick of time to sing the song with the others. The song was featured again in the Alvin and the Chipmunks episode "Merry Christmas, Mr. Carroll". In an extended dream sequence, Alvin is taken by Dave (as the Spirit of Christmas Past) to his old house in the past. There, it was revealed that Dave wrote the song because it was inspired by the gifts that the young Chipmunks gave him (an eraser, a pencil and a piece of paper).
