The GAX30 features a simple hard-tail bridge set up and Ibanez pickups. The GAX30 was produced in both China and Indonesia from its introduction in 2004 through 2008. There were some differences between the models produced in the two factories during this time — one used a basswood body while the other factory used agathis and different pickups were used. Production ceased in China in 2008 and continued only in Indonesia. Some specs, particularly the particular wood species and pickups used, continued to vary depending on market throughout the model run.

Some specs, particularly the particular wood species and pickups used, continued to vary depending on market throughout the model run. In 2008, the guitar was visually updated with chrome knobs instead of black speed knobs. The GAX30 was also sold as part of the IJS20 Jumpstart package, where it came bundled with an amp and accessories, as well as the IJS50 package which also included a distortion pedal.
