The Battle of Yavin IV was the first and initial battle of the Second Mandalorian Wars, but commonly excluded from the list of battles for various reasons by the Republic, one being it was a successful rescue mission and a "terrorist attack" against a non-hostile group of Jedi by the Mandalorians. It was concurrent with the First Battle of Coruscant.

It was concurrent with the First Battle of Coruscant. The battle started when Mandalorian ships threatened the small Republic and Jedi presence on a rescue mission. The Mandalorians claimed the Republic was invading their space and threatened to react with force unless they left. The Republic refused, claiming they were not harming anyone, that they didn't recognize it as Mandalorian space, and they were on a non-violent rescue mission. The battle started when Mandalorian ships fired on the Republic ships. While the space battle raged with Rikenn Tarbann leading the battle and a squad of Panther Stealth Fighters, Mandalore commanded a group of Inferno Destroyers and Vanguard Cruisers on the other side of the moon. They landed where the Massassi Temlpes and the Jedi were. The battle quickly went the Mandalorians' way as most of the Republic and Jedi were looking for a missing Jedi. Rikenn then left to attack the defensless Coruscant. The battle ended when the Jedi accomplished the mission and the Republic fleet went to aid with the battle ragging on Coruscant. The Battle of Yavin IV marked the beginning of the Second Mandalorian Wars, one of the bloodiest wars in galactic history and the history of the Jedi and Republic.
