Synopsis
  • Having completed her Millenium adventure and slain the Manhunter impersonating Pan as Hermes charged her, Diana races back to the Caverns of Doom to find Heracles supporting the entire weight of the island on his shoulders. Her mother lays unconscious at her feet. Heracles urges her to flee as this is no place for her. Diana takes her mother and races away. On the surface, the Amazons find the Door of Doom destroyed. Hippolyta lays badly injured just outside, Diana's tiara clutched in her hand. Diana arrives back beneath the island to aid Herekles. He orders her to go, but it is her home and people he holds in his hands, and she will not abandon him or them. The gods appear. Zeus can take this no longer. The events of the past few days have changed his heart. He releases Herekles from his burden. Diana takes him, and carries him out of the Caverns, back to the surface, to face the Amazons he so wronged many thousands of years ago. The Amazons prepare for battle, but Diana pleads with them to listen to what Herekles has to say. Hippolyta, somewhat recovered, orders them to hear him out. As Diana sets him down, Herekles becomes the first man to ever step on Themyscira. He begs forgiveness for his misdeeds, and the stunned Amazons grant it. In Olympus, all the gods rejoice and celebrate at this final victory, except Hermes, who has lost his son, Pan. At the home of Steve Trevor's father, Steve and Etta talk in the attic. She admits her love for him, and him for her. Themyscira recovers and celebrates. Herekles joins in a celebration where the Amazons burn their weapons and armor, their long duty to guard the Caverns of Doom finally discharged. Later, as Diana revels in flight, Hippolyta and Herekles watch her. Herekles suggests that purhaps she is his daughter, but Hippolyta denies it. They admit they love each other, but he must return to Olympus and she has duties here, so he departs. The Amazons debate their place in the world. Hippolyta orders Diana to man's world to learn and to teach so they may make a better decision. Diana goes gladly, though she promises to return often. Back in Boston, she surprises Julia with her return, and Julia welcomes her home.
Notes
  • *Millennium #6-8 take place between Wonder Woman #13 and 14.
quotation
  • I am glad, Hippolyte, truly. 't Would have been a mockery for such a beautiful child to be born from so ugly an act as my violation of you! Though time has done nothing to diminish my appreciation of thy great beauty, o queen... it has done much to enhance my respect for you as a true equal.
