| - The Union of the Centre (UvdS) is a centrist party in the Commonwealth of Saridan. It currently forms the government and has a majority in the National Congress. It has existed as the sole party for many years, only facing opposition in its first election and since the creation of the Popular Movement for Solidarity (VvS) in 3773. The first leader of the UvdS was Lina Kruger, who led the UvdS in the National Congress from 3749 up until her resignation in 3766. In that year, Michael Merten, a wealthy businessman took control of the party. The country had been facing a recession, and his experience in business was seen as important in addressing the economic situation. Following the creation of the VvS, the UvdS Government held elections, which it won handily. Neil Van der Kaap replaced Merten as Head of the Government in 3774. Van der Kaap was unpopular with certain members of his cabinet, and in 3777, several resigned. This prompted Van der Kapp to call new elections, only 3 years into the UvdS' mandate.
