| - Barbara had the great misfortune to have married Robert Waverly. In 1995 Robert witnessed Duncan MacLeod's defeat of immortal, Peter Matlin and videotaped the beheading and Quickening then later used it to try and blackmail MacLeod into killing his wife, Barbara. An inept criminal at best, Robert concluded his life of crime as a victim of Matlin's partner, Lyman Kurlow, who then went to the Waverly household in order to kill Barbara and steal everything worth stealing. Aware of the threat to her, MacLeod and Joe Dawson arrived in time to save her from Kurlow. With all that she had seen, however, Dawson thought the best course of action was to recruit her into the Watchers. A graduate of Simon Fraser University, she was fluent in English, French, and Italian and skilled with research and information systems. She completed her apprenticeship as a Watcher historian from 1996 - 1997. She then moved into research from 1997 - 1999. In 1999 she was promoted to Area Librarian in Seacouver.
