On July 3, 2001, a number of stations in the Cleveland area swapped call letters as a prelude to shifts in ownership. The formats went with the call letters, so that the original WRMR changed its format to WKNR and adopted WKNR's format. This was in fact treated in the media as a frequency swap, but in terms of FCC licenses it was considered a call letter swap.
