Synopsis
| - Lois Lane has been working on the "Your Career" feature for the Daily Planet, where she gets a letter from a soldier. Coincidentally, Perry White is sending her and Clark Kent to cover the retirement of General Grey at Camp Jones, and has specifically detailed Lois to cover the female soldier angle by reporting on the WAC division. In the mess hall, Lois meets a soldier named Eddie Banning Jr. who has a cake prepared for her and tells her he his her biggest fan. Lois is completely put off by the young man's physical appearance and insults his cooking behind his back.
However, when the boy returns she fawns over him and asks him out on a date which makes the young man happy. Later when Clark and Lois are alone, Clark catches onto the fact that Lois is up to something. Lois points out that Eddie Banning Jr. is the son of famous movie star Eddie Banning Sr. and that she is dating the young soldier for the publicity in the hopes of making Superman jealous.
Over the course of the next few days, Lois makes dates with Eddie and attempts to try and eek out of them with one excuse or another, however Superman secretly steps in so that Eddie comes out on top. However, during other moments when Lois is away from Eddie, she constantly belittles and makes fun of him. When Eddie's fellow soldiers try to warn him of Lois' motivations, he simply ignores them.
After Lois begins to blow Eddie off too often, he sneaks out of Camp Jones to visit her at the Daily Planet. Before the military police can take him back to base, he proposes to Lois, who accepts much to everyone's surprise. Things carry on until the big wedding on the "Army Show of the Month" television program. There, Lois breaks down and admits the entire episode was a sham on national television.
Later as Eddie is flying back to base in a helicopter full of TNT, the machine experiences a failure prompting Clark Kent to change into Superman and rescue Eddie. Later, before his father, Eddie Jr. reveals that the entire episode was a sham perpetuated by both himself and Lois Lane in order to prove to his father that he has acting abilities. Eddie Sr. is impressed by his sons acting skills, and Superman gets jabbed by Lois for falling for it also.
- Lois Lane is taken by Superman to his Fortress of Solitude in order for Lois to take pictures for the Daily Planet. There she snaps photos of Superman fighting a creature in his Interplanetary Zoo to get some exercise, and sees other interesting creatures. She is temporarily turned into glass by a strange gem and shown around some more. Later in Superman's observatory, Superman cautions Lois not to look into his telescope because the stellar rays are harmful to anyone but him. He explains that the rays would make anyone disintegrate if they came into contact with direct sunlight. To punctuate this, a Venusian butterfly flies into the path of the beams and then past a skylight and disintegrates.
Wanting to prove that she'll be safe living in the Fortress of Solitude if they were to be married, Lois looks through the telescope forcing Superman to have to keep her in the Fortress for the next three days until the star-rays wear off. Left alone in the Fortress, Lois spends the night in a room fashioned with Kryptonian household items. When the anti-gravity bed she is sleeping on suddenly goes wild, Lois crashes into the Superman Robot that is guarding the Fortress, and it suddenly starts spanking her.
The next day Superman warns her that it should get cold outside but the indoor heaters should keep her warm. However, they fail and Lois first tries to keep warm with a yellow coat, however it angers one of the alien creatures that roam the Fortress, and she is forced to abandon it and tough out the cold. Warmed up, Lois decides to snoop around the Fortress and finds a closet full of Christmas gifts for all of Superman's friends. Each box lists only the initials on the box and Lois snooping in the two marked "L.L." she finds two different autographed photos. The first simply signed to "a friend" and the other "the only girl who knows my secret identity", which leaves Lois to wonder which photo is going to her and which one to Lana Lang.
Lastly, while reading a book on Kryptonian plant people, Lois is horrified to find that she is turning into a plant. Superman rushes in and reveals that it's really the illusion jewel that is making it look like that. With the three days up, Superman offers to take her home but also offers to let her stay longer. Lois has been so shaken by the experience she asks Superman to bring her back to Metropolis. Along the way home, Superman muses to himself how he learned of Lois' plot after reading her diary with his x-ray vision and orchestrated all the events in order to dissuade her from wanting to stay at the Fortress. Back in Metropolis, Lois confides to Clark Kent about the personalized photographs she found and begins to wrack her brain trying to figure out who they are for. This gives Clark another laugh, as he muses that the signed photo is for neither Lois or Lana, but Linda Lee, who is secretly his cousin Supergirl.
- When witnessing Superman putting on a super-feat in which he pulls a series of models on water skis, Lois Lane begins to lament that she will never get Superman to propose to her. Spying on Lois with her x-ray vision, Superman's cousin Supergirl decides to try and help Lois out from afar.
She starts by using her super-powers to make bill boards and other pictures of women appear to be Lois Lane whenever Superman passes by, hoping that constantly "seeing" Lois might prompt him to propose. The plan works initially, and Superman arranges a romantic dinner with Lois aboard a ship, however in spite of Supergirl's best efforts to make sure the evening goes off as planned, Superman rushes off to save a car from being struck by a train. When he finally returns their dinner has gone cold and the night is ruined. The night is a bust when, trying to make the evening more romantic by blowing in clouds, Supergirl blows a little too hard and knocks Lois off the boat. When Superman rescues her, he realizes that if they were ever to get married, her life would be at constant risk and decides to leave.
Undaunted, Supergirl tries to make Superman jealous by making it appear as though Batman is courting Lois by sending her flowers and a Batwoman costume. However, the rejected Superman accepts the fact that Batman has won her affections and leaves. As a final attempt, Supergirl tries whispers subliminal messages into Superman's ears as he sleeps telling him to propose. However, this also backfires when Superman proposes to every woman he sees. When the story hits the radio airwaves, Lois is furious when Superman comes and proposes to her as well.
Giving up, Supergirl returns to the orphanage as Linda Lee where she finds Clark Kent waiting for her. Clark reveals that he figured out what was going on when Supergirl made a mistake in making a Batwoman costume with a bat emblem on the back, and other clues revealing that she was the mastermind behind it all. He reveals that he was awake when she tried to use the post-hypnotic suggestion on him, and went along with it to also promote a new movie called "King Solomon's 1,000 Wives" and used the royalty money to donate to Linda's orphanage. With everything explained, Supergirl decides to stop trying to get involved in Superman's romance life.
