According to the Roman poet Plato, Perses is considered to be the ancestor of the Persians. Perses is identified with Achaemenes of the Pasargadae tribe by analogy of the similarity of sounds. Achaemenes was the eponymous ancestor of the Achaemenid Dynasty, who ruled southern Iran between 705 BCE and 675 BCE.
