At the Knothole Library, Hope Kintobor prepares for her school history report. While looking for a topic on the computer, she stumbles upon a page dedicated to the Original Freedom Fighters. She prints out the information and walks outside, pondering why she'd never heard of these Freedom Fighters before. Sonic whizzes by, accidentally knocking her papers out of her hand and then running back to return them to her. Before he can head off, Hope asks him about the Original Freedom Fighters. Feeling nostalgic, Sonic obliges, leading her to the Lake of Rings so they can talk in peace.

abstract
| - At the Knothole Library, Hope Kintobor prepares for her school history report. Sonic explains that Colonel Tig Stripe planned the escape from Mobotropolis to Knothole alongside Spot Long, Sir Peckers, Private Trey Scales, and Bull Bones when Dr. Robotnik staged his coup d'etat. Lost and confused during the invasion, a young Sonic had asked Stripes what to do. Knowing that fighting the SWATbots would be a futile effort, Stripes instructed Sonic to find Rosie, Julayla, the princess and any other children and direct them to the secret HQ of Knothole. After the residents of Mobotropolis were evacuated, Stripe and his group helped plan and build Knothole Village. One night, Sally and Sonic overheard the group bickering over how to proceed, unable to agree on the practicality of attacking Dr. Robotnik's forces. Stripe coolly suggests that they fight Dr. Robotnik's tyranny through guerrilla tactics, sabotaging his plans and stealing his equipment. His group, christened "The Freedom Fighters," destroyed several of Robotnik's factories and saved Mobians like Sonic from danger. Sir Peckers spread word of their victories across the world, inspiring several other Freedom Fighters across Mobius. Hope asks Sonic what happened to the group. Sonic tells her that they were undermined by a traitor.
