The United Basketball League is a spring professional minor basketball league in the Southern United States. Originally founded by Mac Claire in 2006 as the Regional Basketball League, the UBL is scheduled to begin its inaugural season in the spring of 2008. With an aim to provide stable, family-friendly baseketball teams for all to enjoy, the UBL expects to begin play with 6-10 teams in cities with populations between 100,000-300,000 in places such as Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, and Louisiana. Its rules and style of play include a shot clock shortened to 20 seconds and 5 seconds to advance the ball past midcourt to promote a consistently up-tempo game. Teams will be geographically located to create a favorable travel schedule where players and coaches may return home
