Once a weapon mod is found, it may be applied to any and all of the weapons of the applicable type at a weapon bench. Finding another instance of a mod the player already possesses will upgrade that mod to the next level. Likewise, shops will always carry mods one level above those the player currently has.

- Due to the removal of the money system, weapon mods are unlocked solely by downing enemies with the weapon that the player needs/wishes to upgrade. Equipped mods add extra loadout points to the weapon, thus allowing the gun to be upgraded with the cost of taking away space for other items. In addition, only one mod can be applied to each weapon; however, after all the default mods are unlocked for the desired weapon, continuing using the weapon unlocks "Hero Weapons" which have two pre-installed mods but require more loadout points.

After the player earns their first "Hero weapon", it's possible to get any random HW through the in-game store; Purchasing the "Hero Weapon chest" costs 400 relics, but will never give a duplicate weapon, always giving one that the player doesn't already have.
