Gems can be socketed into Weapons and Armor for special effect. To socket a gem, one must use a Gem Tool, purchasable from the weapon and armor trainers in the Trade Academies. Use the Gem Tool, first on the gem then on the target. After which a temporary bonus is applied to the armor or weapon. The length of duration depends on the grade of the gem socketed as well as the power of the bonus. The durations are: 330 seconds for flawed, 400 seconds for normal, 430 seconds for Gem II, 500 seconds for Gem III, 530 seconds for Gem IV, and 600 seconds for Gem V.
