Nina Cassady was a detective on Law & Order, the first and only female detective in the original Law & Order series, appeared in the seventeenth season. Cassady was partnered with Detective Ed Green. Her arrival at the 27th Precinct was controversial, as Lieutenant Anita Van Buren, the precinct commander, had someone lined up to be Detective Fontana's replacement and Green's partner. Van Buren was overruled, however, after Cassady's involvement in a well-publicized arrest led to her being promoted. Van Buren was very concerned about Cassady's lack of experience, and made that very clear. (L&O: "Fame")

Van Buren was very concerned about Cassady's lack of experience, and made that very clear. (L&O: "Fame") Cassady was transferred to the 27th Precinct after a shootout occurred at a beauty parlor which led to the press giving her the nickname "Detective Beauty Queen." In the season finale "The Family Hour", she botches an interrogation after losing her temper & coercing a suspect who was close to confessing and the suspect gets so enraged, he throws a chair through a glass window. Van Buren calls Cassady out on her unprofessional behavior after being on the job for 8 months which suggests that she might not have a future with the 27th Precinct anymore. Cassady later gives a strong performance on the witness stand in court. By the next season, Cassady is replaced by Detective Cyrus Lupo and there is no explanation for her departure and she isn't seen or mentioned again.
