When David Platt suffered a series of short blackouts, including one when he was driving a car and knocked down Graeme Proctor, he was sent for a series of tests. The Consultant at Weatherfield General told him they appeared to show that he had idiopathic epilepsy - one whose cause couldn’t be traced specifically - but that drugs could alleviate the symptoms. As David was on a charge of attempted murder for knocking Graeme down, the family were relieved that a cause which could get the charge dropped had been found and Graeme was relieved that his buddy was still his buddy and not his enemy. The two promptly went for a drink to celebrate.
