  • The Gnalish were a reptilian civilization native to the planet Gnala, somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. The Gnalish were also members of the United Federation of Planets. (TNG novel: Reunion) There were three subtypes of Gnalish, the small Fejimaera, the medium sized Mazzereht and the large Arklash. They could interbreed, the subtype being determined by the father. (STA novel: Progenitor) The Gnalish regularly performed a ritual, where groups of up to six males ran along prescribed paths through the wilderness. The leader of the winning group would be allowed to fertilize a cache of eggs. Each male could only be a leader once in his life time. A group was considered to have reached the finish line, when its last member crossed the line. In case of a draw the leaders of two groups would fight a duel. Before infertilising the eggs, the winner would first scribe the runes on his insadja'tu stone into the ground. (STA novel: Progenitor)
