The term was coined by Neshomeh in a journal post on deviantART. It refers to the decision to put Thranduil on a moose during the prologue of Peter Jackson's film adaptation of The Hobbit. Though it has since been pointed out that this may actually have been an Irish elk (which might lead to the variation "Thranduil on an elk!"), many fans of the book nonetheless found this... odd.
