A Champion of Ra is a deity; often one that takes the form of a cat, that serves Ra and fights Apophis. There have only been two Champions of Ra. The first was Sekhmet. When she proved too dangerous, Ra replaced her with Bast. When Isis discovered Ra's secret name and forced him to leave Earth, Ra's last act as pharaoh was to lock Apophis and Bast in combat until they destroyed each other. Thousands of years later, Bast was rescued by Julius and Ruby Kane; Bast now thinks of herself as a coward.
