Blake Edwards was an American film director, producer and screenwriter. He began his career in the 1940s as an actor, but he soon turned to writing screenplays and radio scripts before turning to producing and directing in film and television. His best-known films include Operation Petticoat (1959), Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Days of Wine and Roses (1962), The Great Race (1964), Darling Lili (1970), 10 (1976), Victor/Victoria (1982) and the hugely successful The Pink Panther film series with British comedian Peter Sellers with whom collaborated on many films with. Often thought of as primarily a director of comedies, he also directed dramas and detective films. Late in his career, he transitioned to writing, producing, and directing for theater.
